North Beach, Chatham, Massachusetts

This page is a landing zone for various maps and other pieces of information.  We have a plethora of information and it would be beneficial to organize that information.

CHATHAM ASSESSORS KMZ the assessors KMZ is a Google Earth file that includes the approximate boundaries of North Beach.  The boundaries on North Beach Island are incomplete.

PRELIMINARY NORTH BEACH BOUNDARY this is a preliminary report that clarifies the questions regarding the status of several properties at the point of North Beach.

Between the breakthrough in April of 2007 and the summer of 2008, about 2,000 feet of beach was scoured away.  This is the first map created that depicted the location of some accretion.  At the time, there was some discord in the community regarding the ownership of the beach, so the property lines were not depicted.

The 1858 Walling Map shows something interesting.

The 1987 and 2007 breaches both broke, then rapidly expanded north over a relatively short period of time.  The linework on the Walling map would suggest a similar process occurred in 1858.
